Jack Edward Ellis (S. Sgt. Ret.), age 82, of Grafton, WV, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2018 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

Jack was born October 3, 1935 in Royal Oak, Michigan, a son of the late John H. Ellis and Dorothy (Carberry) Ellis.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Virginia Adelaide (Davis) Ellis; one son, Michael Edward Ellis, and wife Mickey of Houston, TX; one daughter, Leslie Ann Newlon, and husband David of Grafton; four grandchildren, Jennifer and Jamie Newlon, both of Grafton, Chrissy M Noynaert and husband Jared, and John M. Ellis, all of Houston, TX; two great-grandchildren, Madalynn Davis and Asher Noynaert; one brother, James Ellis of MI; one sister-in-law, Iris Hyson, and husband Dick of Winchester, VA, and one brother-in-law, Paul Davis, and wife Jean of Independence, WV.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Clara Mae Jose and Leslie Ellis, as well as by one brother-in-law, Larry Davis.

Jack graduated from Royal Oak High School with the Class of 1953. He joined the U.S. Navy and served for four years in active duty in the Korean War, then retired from the 363rd MP Company after 19 years. He also served in active duty a second time in Desert Storm. He formerly worked for Rexhide Rubber in Grafton and later retired from Fibair Inc. in Reedsville.

He enjoyed sports and traveling. Over the years, Jack and Virginia spent time in all 50 states, as well as five continents.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Wednesday, March 28, from 9:00-11:00 am. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Ronald G. Ford officiating. Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery in Grafton. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Taylor County Honor Guard and the Army National Guard of Kingwood.
