Obituary for Rita Winona McDaniel (Sturm)
Rita Winona (Sturm) McDaniel, age 92 of Grafton, (Knottsville Community) WV, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Beulahland Assisted Living Facility.
She was born February 20, 1922 in Grafton, WV a daughter of the late John Clinton and Cecelia (Vernon) Sturm.
She is survived by two sons, Charles W. “Mack” McDaniel, Jr. and wife, Alta of Winfield, WV and Samuel K. McDaniel and wife, Judy of Knottsville Community, Grafton; five grandchildren, Stacie Jo Mander and husband Khush of Greenwood, IN, Brandon K. McDaniel and wife Laurie of Knottsville Community, Sean J. McDaniel of Grove City, OH, Wendy M. Mathes and husband Craig of Hilliard, OH and Caitlyn E. Ridge and husband Garrett of Cary, NC; nine great-grandchildren, Matthew K. McDaniel of Knottsville Community, Sarah, Hope, and Torrin Mander of Greenwood, IN, Ben, Drew, Grace, and Gwen Mathes of Hillard, OH, and Sean McDaniel of Grove City, OH; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Rita was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles William McDaniel, who passed away December 24, 2001; two sisters, Helen Sampson and Elva Jean McCartney; and two brothers, Jackie and Vernon Sturm.
Rita was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister to her family. She retired as a secretarty for the Taylor County Board of Education. She was a member of the Naomi Chapter 12 OES and a member of the Knottsville United Methodist Church.
The family is very thankful for the loving care provided by Ramona Thompson during the last several years of Rita’s life.
The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Sunday, June 29th from 3:00-8:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour on Monday.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, June 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Dan Lowther officiating.
Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown.
