Obituary for Albert Leslie "Bud" Gaskin

Albert Leslie "Bud" Gaskin
Albert “Bud” Leslie Gaskin, 101, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Country Meadows, Mechanicsburg.
He was born August 30, 1914 in Grafton, WV to the late Leslie W. and Mabel Doll Gaskin and was the widower of the late Virginia Mahaffey Gaskin to whom he was married for 55 years.
Bud retired from the former Railway Express Agency as a Division Supervisor. He served on the Silver Spring Township Planning Commission for 15 years. He also was on the Board of Directors for the Ironstone Ridge Nature Center and provided his barn as a location for wrapping seedlings for distribution to local elementary schools. This was an activity that he cherished and looked forward to every year. He was a local historian and enjoyed showing people his home which was built in 1780. This tour also included tricks from his beloved dog “Richard Russell”. You could not leave Bud’s home without a bouquet of dried flowers, a bag of black walnuts, a bottle of homemade wine and a jar of raspberry jam, as well as vittles from his huge garden. He was a proud World War II veteran serving in the United States Marines. He was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, New Kingstown, PA for which he provided communion wine from his vineyard.
He is survived by his devoted daughter, Starr (and husband Howard) Offenger; three grandchildren, Misti (and fiancé Luke) Hockensmith, Steven J. (and wife Loren) Hockensmith, Howie Offenger, and a great grandaughter Mackenzie Star Hockensmith. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Leslie Joseph Gaskin and three sisters, Dora B., Mabel C. and Margret Gaskin.
